Lets give the man the benefit of the doubt and assume he really meant to insult the President of the United States and not the entire US Military. Fine. That’s a whole other argument. The fact is we have all now heard what John Kerry said and we all know it sure as hell sounded like he was insulting the military.
Lots of folks on active duty and retired took offense. For that reason alone he needs to apologize and A half hearted insincere effort is not going to cut it.
“Of course I’m sorry about a botched joke. You think I love botched jokes?” Kerry said during an appearance on Don Imus’ nationally syndicated radio program. “I mean, you know, it’s pretty stupid.”
Even my Iraqi friend currently living in the states who hates George Bush thinks you insulted the military:
Even though I am anti-war, I found Kerry’s remarks were pretty insulting to the US soldiers.

This guy thinks American soldiers shoot Iraqi women and children for fun and he found Kerry’s remarks insulting. What does that say about people who are trying to defend them now?
To make matters worse several folks on your side of the aisle happen to agree with your comments even if you never meant to say them. Which makes people naturally suspicious of your intentions all the more angry.
Just a tip for Senator Kerry when the Boston newspaper that loves all things Democrat thinks you are an embarrasment. Do the right think Mr. Kerry. It is time to apologize.
Captain Ed believes Kerry’s story that he meant to slam GWB and not the troops but finds his apology lacking.

Kerry Apologizes Without Apologizing…
BTW. Why does a U.S. Senator have a personal diary on the Daily Kos website that regularly accuses the U.S. military of being mass murderers, calls the president of the United States Bushitler and calls Pope Benedict a Nazi?

More than anything else, I just wish Kerry would shut up. He is a god-awful story and joke teller. He is not so stupid as to insult the troops. Despite all the noise by the swift-boater crowd, he did serve his country in Vietnam.
But..his statement was ham-handed and unnecessary. It got the right in a lather, and it didn’t bring anything new to the table. I think he now has adequately apologized, and I hope he means it when he said he was going back home and get out of the way, or something like that.
Personally, if he’d just stay out of the light for 3 more years, I’d be happy.

It says much, all bad, about our nation that we would have come close to electing such a character as Kerry. We are such wimps. We have the most overwhelming difference in strength between us and the next tier of world powers as there has ever been between the superpower and the next rank in the history of the world, yet it is next to impossible to get us to project that force in our self-interest. And Kerry is just a manifestation of that national weeniness.
And, BTW, the Iraqi you linked to is an interesting character. If, as you say, he thinks that our troops “shoot Iraqi women and children for fun”, then how does this make him your friend (or rational, for that matter)? And, if he is ‘anti-war’, then why does he think (as he says on his website) that the invasion was a good thing? Just wondering…
