I am sure many on the right will react to Greenwald’s latest post with anger and justifiably so. Personally I find it sad.

Glenn of all people has to know first hand about prejudice, and bigotry. Yet today as so often is the case he has no problem slinging his own demagoguery in an attempt to achieve his political ends.

Greenwald wants the GOP to lose in November, he wants them to lose the presidency in 2008, he wants George Bush impeached and will say just about anything to try and bring that about.

Let’s just imagine for a moment instead of condemning the evil Republicans, Greenwald’s hate filled and ignorant attack was leveled at Homosexuals.

In his own words:

This is not some bizarre aberration. This is how they operate and it is what they are. And the Mark Foley scandal is making it virutally impossible for anyone to convincingly deny it any longer.

Sad.

**Update 11:24**

Gateway Pundit is reporting this:

Radical Gay Rights Activists held on to information about Representative Foley for months and years. These “Rights Activists” knew that representative Foley had relationships with young men less than half his age.” They did their own investigation on Foley. They even flew in their sources in to be interviewed about the Representative. They shared this information with the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. They held on to the information for over a year. They wrote about how they would break the story at midterm elections.

Is Glenn ready to condemn these gay rights activists or the Democratic Party for keeping these details a secret for months?

I won’t hold my breath.

**update** Gay Patriot has a must read post on “The List” of gay Republican staffers that is circulating among DC and MSM circles. In the post he takes exception to David Corn’s article.

Did it ever occur to Mr. Corn that the representatives and Senators he mentions that may or may not have gay staffers do not care about their sexual orientation yet value their participation as public servants? Is it not rational that you can hire a gay staffer, but at the same time oppose PUBLIC POLICY POSITIONS that you are morally or philosophically opposed to without being labeled a homophobe?

Perhaps Mr. Corn is ignoring the fact that most gay conservatives identify more strongly in our American Identity than our Gay Identity.

  6. Thanks for your postings. You help prove, over and over again, the idiocy of the Right wing.

  7. What does your quote have to do with Rush Limbaugh’s hypocrisy? A marriage-hopping drug abuser is at the center of the Republican “moral” universe. The Republican in charge of keeping kids safe from internet sex predators is, himself, an internet sex predator. These are facts. Your claim of “hatred” from Glenn Greenwald has no merit.

  9. I think you are misreading his point. His point is not that all Republicans are “twisted, warped, dysfunctional and rotted”, but that the administration of GWB is (hence the “six years” qualifier). Further, he is not saying the Republican party is full of degenerates, but rather that upon discovery of a degenerate, they did everything they could to shield him, in order to hang on to their power.

  10. You’re engaged in a classic case of quote mining. Where you sever part of an argument out if its context to change the meaning. Then, having done so, you build a strawman argument around changed meaning through your little juxtaposition.

Greenwald doesn’t care about Foley’s orientation. Greenwald is clear that it’s not pedophillia. Greenwald is clear that most of the exchanges didn’t violate any criminal statute.

It’s also clear that it’s sexual harrassment with under-age, unwilling participants and the Republican leadership, instead of taking Foley to task, instead decided to COVER IT UP and, knowing what they knew, still wanted Foley to run for a 7th term, even though Foley was wanting to leave Congress because he was tired of being discriminated against by his own party.

The real moral is, as we all know, the cover-up is usually worse than the crime and it exposes the players for who they really are. And how this cover-up illustrated how corrupt the so-called “family values” party has become. Where you need to put chastity belts on your sons to keep them from getting buggered by a Republican Congressman.

  12. The Foley Scandal Redux…

The Democratic party is going full tilt in their attempt to get us much as they can from the Foley incident:
The Senate Democratic Campaign Committee (SDCC), headed by Reid, sent an e-mail with the subject line “Heckuva Job!” to supporters …

  13. Moses,

I think you have missed the point entirely and would suggest you re-read his entire closing paragraph again and take the title of his post into context.

It is not a coincidence that the GOP was harboring someone like Mark Foley within its highest ranks while their most powerful political officials purposely looked the other way and even actively helped to conceal what he was up to, thereby enabling him to continue. After all, even now that this conduct has been exposed, their instinct — all the way to the highest levels — is to excuse and defend those leaders and offer up the most disgusting defenses — all because preservation of their political power depends on it. This is not some bizarre aberration. This is how they operate and it is what they are. And the Mark Foley scandal is making it virutally impossible for anyone to convincingly deny it any longer.

He absolutely labled the entire Republican party with his slander. That may or may not have been intentional and it is up to Glenn to clarify exactly who he meant to include.

Until that time I take the man at his word.

  14. Taking No Prisoners in the Mark Foley Scandal…

It shows the childishness of some in the political class that they think tattling and pointing and making faces will get us to buy their ideology…

  15. He absolutely labled the entire Republican party with his slander.

And I am SO certain, that if the shoe were on the other foot and Foley was a Democrat the Republicans would NEVER EVER use something like this to their political advantage.

No sir, because they are the party of virtues and morality, and losers like Hannity and Coulter would remain mute and let the system work

    Gimme a f’ng break.

It’s hilarious to watch the right wing squirm when they’re up against a wall.

What I don’t understand, is why you don’t throw Foley and Hastert overboard yet. At least Dems know when to throw in the towel and admit defeat.

Comment by Harry Lime October 4, 2006 @ 11:33 am

  16. Greenwald’s comments about Rush Limbaugh are bang on.

What he doesn’t mention about Limbaugh is his hypocrisy in attacking the patriotism of people like Kerry, Murtha or Paul Hacket who volunteered to serve their country and went to war when Rush’s response on getting his draft notice was to run to his doctor for a note excusing him from service.

Whether his anal cyst was a legitimate basis for keeping him out of combat isn’t the question here, although the dittoheads will argue that it is. But the contrast between their impulse to volunteer and Rush’s impulse to avoid serving is striking. It’s one thing to disagree with their policy opinions, but to hear this cowardly hypocrite questioning the courage or patriotism of any American veteran is sickening.

If he was the patriot he claims to be El Rushbo would have found a way to serve instead of looking for a way out.

You can fool some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time, but I think we are finally getting to the “can’t fool all of the people all of the time” moment. The so-called “conservative movement” that has hijacked the Republican party for the last 25-30 years is finally being exposed for the empty, greedy power-grubbing, corrupt hypocritical gang of thugs it is. About time, too…

    Comment by A Hermit October 4, 2006 @ 11:48 am

  17. Glenn is right. Today the Republican party is an immoral husk, lead by cynical and in some cases, evil men. It’s right there in front of you eyes TUA, I don’t know what it is about your history or upbringing that doesn’t allow you to see it. You don’t seem to have the independence of mind to see things clearly.

The Republican party has been great and perhaps it will be in the furture but today it is nothing more than America’s party of hate. Think about it. Every group that makes up the GOP is animated more by specific hatreds of other Americans than it is by a positive vision of society.

    Sad.

Comment by Northern Observer October 4, 2006 @ 11:59 am

  18. Look–stop with the “sad.” It’s bad argument and bad writing. Articulate a basis for feeling sad in a way that convinces. “At the heart of a life spent chasing child prostitutes in the Dominican Republic is–well, what? Someone ought to ask Limbaugh.” See, that’s a sad image.

  19. “At least Dems know when to throw in the towel and admit defeat.”–Harry Lime

    ROTFLKASTMAFO

Let’s see… and when exactly did the Dems “give up” on the serial slanderer/rapist/perjurer-in-chief? How soon will Dems “give up” on Ted “Swimmer” Kennedy? (No comment from Mary Jo Kopeckne) Should we go on?

    Yeh. That’s what I thought.

    Pot, meet kettle; kettle, pot.

For every jackass in one political party, anyone with an axe to grind can easily find multiple jackasses three or four times worse in the other (and while that may seem paradoxical, when one considers how roaches proliferate, the fact that jackass politicians outpace them should resolve the aparent paradox). I say let’s shove all of ‘em, from both parties, in a large locked room and refuse them food. Let ‘em Kilkinny Cat themselves out of existence.* A Pox on both their houses.

As Twain said, “It could probably be shown by facts and figures that there is no distinctly native American criminal class except Congress.”

    And

“Last time I checked people could choose whether or not to be a Republican. I beleive you’re comparing apples to lightbulbs… “–Paul Dirks

Hanging onto the myth of homosexual determinism, eh, Paul? So far, there is NO (as in zero, zilch, nada) scientific evidence for that claim. The only thing making the claim a “fact” in the eyes of homosexuals and unthinking sheeple is that the lie that science has “proven” homosexuality has a biologically determinant factor has been so often and so loudly (and so shrilly) repeated. Oh, and that peer reviewed voodooism (lovely picture: voodoo peer review–found also among global climate alarmists) has replaced science in this arena.

Pull the other one. No, cancel that. You’d probably try to pull the wrong “leg”.

*Of course the Kilkenny Cat solution wouldn’t really work. Away from the public eye and a need to feign enmity for political gain, there’s not a dime’s worth of real difference between the two parties. Besides, therre are some things that not even a politician *spit* will eat.

  20. Some loser said :

Let’s see… and when exactly did the Dems “give up” on the serial slanderer/rapist/perjurer-in-chief?

Oh, I see, here we go again with a 25 yr old story about Juanita Broderick. Sure, Clinton is a rapist, uhhuh, and he sells drugs, Jerry Falwell told me so!

Any charges ever filed against him by her? Any physical evidence? Why did she campaign for him for governor, if he was some brutal monster? You guys are such suckers, you believe anything bad about you hear from the anus of hannity

It’s so funny to watch the right in their panic mode. The first thing they pull out of their ass is, predictably, Bill Clinton.

You guys will never get over your obsession with him, will you?

Maybe because he is everything you will never be in life, that is smart, admired, successful, and can still get some young tail, and that’s what really burns the average Rush limbaugh listener more than all of them.

It aint his fault none of you ever got laid in college, and you had to ‘wait’ until marriage.

    Goodnight, it’s been fun.
