Filed by The Ugly American on June 21st, 2006 at 18:18 under Breaking News, News From Iraq

That is the headlines across the blogs, on talk radio, and on cable news. General Tom Mcinerney is reporting on Fox Hannity and Colmes right now that that the administration has been keeping this low profile to avoid exposing 3 of the 5 members of the UN Security council; Russia, China, and France. McInerney says these weapons will be traced to these countries, and asserts it is well known that Russia helped Saddam move most of his WMD stockpiles out of Iraq before the war.

Captains Quarters is updating as more news develops and has a .pdf of a letter from Central Intelligence Cheif Negreponte declassifying the documentation.

Although I have always beleived that Saddam had WMD before the war, I am definitely in a wait and see mode here. Atrios on the other hand has made up his mind:

Despite my reputation for seething blogospheric rage, I’m actually rarely that angry, but little Ricky lying about what’s going on in Iraq, putting his party and his re-election above country while shitting all over the soldiers that are in harm’s way really pisses me off.

I just know his commenters will go far beyond this.

***update***

didn’t have to wait long. 4th comment in the thread:

and people think I’m crazy, talkin’ about armed revolt. *sigh*

nice.

**update**

Welcome Captain’s Quarters folks 8).

more comments from Atrios’ moonbats:

Woohoo, lets all cry more crocodile tears for the soldiers that we pretend to care about so much! Of course, we all really want to spit on the thugs but that wouldn’t go down well on Main Street USA right now.

Unfortunately, Li’l Ricky has given birth to a Li’l Baby Zombie Lie.

You can expect it to be treated as settled, gospel truth among the Wingnuttosphere from now until eternity.

am so embarrassed this man is our president. jawbone

The ‘lil trolls are so desperate because, deep down in their hearts, they know the Chimp is a total fuckup and they can’t bring themselves to the realization that they backed an utter, abject failure.

So, despite all objective measures that the Iraq war is a total clusterfuck they impugn us to make them feel better about themselves.

Atrios, I think you are totally justified in your thinking. I’m so pissed, I’m going to start drinking. Only way I can get through this days of lies. Never thought my country would come to this.

Rage, rage against the dying throes of the right…

Ricky is way behind in the polls - 34%, so I wonder if Bushco has promised him some position in the maladministration if he would lie about the WMD and carry the Bushco water - same thing for Lie -berman who must know he’s heading for a defeat come August 8th - I wonder if he’s been promised something, too - some last minute deal, perhaps!!

In the meantime, Keith gives a laundry list of why Iraq is a fucking clusterfuck.

Others blogging: Big Dog has a list of Democratic Responses to this news:

  • Santorum is in trouble with his electorate so he did this to help his reelection
  • George Bush deliberately withheld this information to make the donks look bad. If he did that would be a pretty smart thing to do, especially for a man they all claim is dumber than a box of rocks.
  • The US planted them there
  • These are old items and don’t count

Too late Big Dog. I think the Atrios folks have already hit all of those.

Flopping Aces has some notable qoutes from Dems including this one:

“Iraq is a long way from [here], but what happens there matters a great deal here. For the risks that the leaders of a rogue state will use nuclear, chemical or biological weapons against us or our allies is the greatest security threat we face.” - Madeline Albright, Feb 18, 1998

Gateway Pundit has great roundup and more bad news for Murtha and his pals: Iraqis still say the US invasion and removing Saddam was a good thing and they are better off today.

  13. […] Comedy? Hoekstra asked for the de classification of the key points himself. And Fox News has what it calls an official adminstration response that denies the WMD here are anything we would have gone to war over. Fox News and the Bush Administration? They are in on the conspiracy too. Against the Bush Administration. If Saddam wasn’t manufacturing WMD, it looks like someone is working very hard to create a WMD scandal where there is none. But maybe that is just spin, the spin of the left. Or something. Or maybe we are saving face for allies on the United Nations Security Council. Or we didn’t want to tip off al Q’aeda to the fact that Saddam had unuseable WMD somewhere in Iraq after we went to war to keep Saddam from sharing useable WMD with al Qaeda that he didn’t share with them. Or something. […]

  16. US Intelligence reports: 500 chemical weapons shells recovered in Iraq…

If you’ve been reading this blog, you know that we have discovered both chemical weapons and nuclear materials in Iraq during the past three years. Here is a summary of what we have found so far. And guess what — there’s 500 more!…

  17. Uh…

How dumb are you guys, really?

Anyone who has been following Iraq for the last three years knows that a number of shells have been discovered that included chemical payloads. None have been discovered that date after 1991, and the bulk came from a stockpile that had been buried in the late 1980s along the Iranian border. Virtually all of them have substantially degraded. Indeed, the Pentagon itself has re-iterated this, and nothing in the story cited above contradicts the previous account.

Please don’t embarass yourself by trying to come up with some justification for why the administration would keep this quiet; it kept it quiet because there’s no story. Santorum is rolling it out because he’s in terrible electoral shape and hopes that this will turn things around for him.

  20. Hey this gives me an idea that will solve the Iran problem…. We sort of have a problem here but I think we can turn it into a victory in the end as long as we can keep the plan secret.

It isn’t all that well known, but we sold those WMD’s to Iraq link (keep that under your hats). What we could do is call on the ghost of Reagan past and simply sell Iran a bunch of WMD’s and then, eventually attack them for having them! Kill two birds with one stone, as it were. We could sell them our old, out of date stockpile of chem and bio weapons (of which we have more than any nation in the world, perhaps with the exception of Russia), wait a bit and then demand they disarm. When they do not comply we just go over there and glass the joint. This has the added benefits of promoting our free trade ideals while simultaneously giving us an excuse to further our policy of pre-emptive war-making against nations that are filled with Islamofascist evil. And the delicious irony of the whole thing is that the sale of those arms could help fund that very pre-emptive strike! It is a win-win for us and a lose-lose for them!

I really think this could work. Doh?! What am I saying? It already has once.

  21. Yes, I just checked out the “we sold WMD to Saddam” link posted by the alphabet soup liberal up there. Dude, do you believe every unsupported story that you read, just because some liberal wrote it? There is absolutely no viable sources there, its all about what some guy thinks happened. Hey, guess what…We found WMD. PERIOD. Sorry. Go cry to your mama and stop the Reagan-conspiracy project loser.
Oh, by the way, I heard this one about a cat who wears a hat…Its gotta be true…

I am not sure why you would call me a liberal. Those are fighting words and I demand you take them back! Calling a fellow conservative a liberal is the ultimate insult as I am sure you know.

I do not believe unsupported stories and I only linked to that one for expediency sake. I am hesitant to list more links for fear that evil liberal, Islamofascist loving, hate America first types will follow them but in order to defend the validity of my plan and convince you that what I said above can be accomplished to the greater glory of America I will list a couple more.
