Stop the ACLU has this great news.
A unanimous U.S. Supreme Court ruled on Monday that universities that get federal funds must allow military recruiters on campus, even if their law schools oppose the Pentagon’s policy prohibiting openly gays and lesbians from serving.
That means even former ACLU attorney Ruth Baider Ginsburg agreed with the ruling that a federal law dating back to 1994 that allows the government to withhold money from universities that deny military recruiters the same access to campuses given to other employers as constitutional.
I guess Yale is going to have to cut back on some of its scholarships. One guy comes to mind.

Of course this is a topic made for blogs.
Others talking about this include:
The SCOTUS Blog has all the legal particulars in Court upholds “Solomon Amendment”
The ruling rejected all of the law schools’ First Amendment claims. They had attempted, the Court said, “to stretch a number of First Amendment doctrines well beyond the sort of activities these doctrines protect. Those arguments included assertions that they were being coerced into supporting the idea of discrimination against gays, that they were being compelled to subsidize the military’s anti-gay message, and that they were being forced to engage in “expressive conduct” in favor of the anti-gay program.
The Strata-Sphere points out Money will rule over principle.
So, let’s see how firmly these colleges believe in their principles. Are they willing to sacrifice money for principle? Don’t count on it.
Orin Kerr of The Volokh conspiracy reminds us that he predicted this ruling a long time ago:
Linking PostsThis outcome wasn’t hard to predict, but I thought I would note that my crystal ball was pretty much right on this one. From May 2005: “Gazing into my crystal ball, I predict that the Court will reverse. I don’t think it will be close, either: maybe 9-0, with a concurrence or two.” No concurrences were filed, but then the new Chief Justice wasn’t on the bench when I made the prediction.
