If you haven’t seen this yet be sure you do. I watched most of the movie 2 nights ago and Tivo’d the program. I plan to save it and watch it again on September 11th.
Not only did this movie give you a very real and very moving look at what the passengers of flight 93 and their families went through. If your experience is at all like mine it will bring back vivid memories of where you were when you heard the news, and the people you talked to that day.
I remember waking up to get ready for work and my wife who never watches the news calling me into the living room to see what was on the news. I remember watching as one of the towers was already on fire and then the 2nd plane slicing through the clear blue sky slamming into the other tower. I knew at that moment we were at war. My wife and I stood in our living room stunned for quite some time as the reports came in of the Pentagon being attacked and the possibility of other planes having been hijacked and still in the air. We had both lived in San Diego all of our lives and we had no family or friends there so we were not worried about any loved ones. We were worried about our country.
Eventually I told my wife I had to go to work (we were launching a new show in 2 days) as I pulled out of my drive way my neighbor who I had maybe spoke to twice in the 6 months time that she had lived next door was also coming out of her house. She looked far to calm to me so I rolled down my window and asked her if she had heard the news.
She said no what news?
I began to tell her about the WTC and the pentagon and I broke down in tears. I quickly told her I had to go to work and drove off trying to gain control of myself. I left her standing in the street with her car door open stunned.
I don’t remember crying again that day but I did numerous times on my drive to work or while watching the news for weeks as the personel stories of tragedy and bravery were told.
Flight 93 made those memories that were beginning to fade with time new and raw again.
